When an elderly woman tourist lost her way while visiting a market with her group in Bani Yas area in Dubai, panic got the better of her as she hardly knew whom to approach. The lady mustered enough courage to go inside a shop to seek help. But the man she met inside didn’t know her language.
However, he showed presence of mind and called up the Dubai Police. On seeing the cops, the woman heaved a sigh of relief. Somewhere deep inside, she felt she was in safe hands now.
The cops pacified the lady and then swung into action. Their efforts helped the tourist reunite with her group.
Major Mousa Mubarak Musa, acting director of tourist security department of the Dubai Police, said that they received a call from a shop in Souk Al Baharat area informing them that an elderly European woman tourist had lost contact with the group she was travelling and was searching for them. The man also said that he didn’t understand the language the woman was speaking, the major said.
The tourist police patrol was immediately sent to the place. The cops met the woman and found that she was a German. The elderly lady was gripped in extreme anxiety and apprehension.
Luckily, one of the police officials was fluent in German. The woman told him that she couldn’t recollect the name of the hotel nor that of the tourist company which brought the group there.
A swift search was carried out and the tourist company was tracked. The police reached her safely to her hotel. The group members, who were also worried while looking for the elderly woman, were overjoyed to see her.
Major Mubarak Musa said that the tourist security department officials are proficient in more than six languages and make huge effort to ensure safety of tourists in Dubai.
