Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh expressed his rejection of any military equipment or Russian forces entering Libya from Syria, Anadolu reported yesterday.
This comes after widespread reports that Russian forces entered eastern Libya from Syria following the fall of Bashar Al-Assad’s regime on 8 December.
“No patriot would accept the entry of a foreign country to impose its dominance … Any party entering Libya without permission or agreement will face resistance … We will not allow Libya to become an international battleground,” he said.
Libya currently has two governments: one appointed by the House of Representatives in early 2022, led by Osama Hamad, based in Benghazi which controls the eastern region and most of the southern cities; and the UN-recognised Government of National Unity (GNU), headed by Dbeibeh, based in Tripoli, which governs the western region.
