Dubai Police have arrested a man who blackmailed a woman after threatening to publish her private pictures on social networks and send them to her family.
Brigadier Salem Al Rumaithi, Director of the General Department of Criminal and Investigation at Dubai Police, said the Arab man used to chat with women on social networks and ask them to send him their private pictures.
Police received an email from an Arab woman identified as W.M., who was living outside the UAE. The woman said in her email that she was blackmailed and threatened by the suspect identified as N.S.
“She met him on Facebook and he threatened to publish her pictures on the internet. She asked for protection from the man after she paid him money but he kept blackmailing her,” Brigadier Al Rumaithi said.
Cyber police discovered that the suspect had been working in a company but he was sacked after a fight with his workmate. Police arrested the suspect from an apartment which he had been sharing with another man.
“He admitted receiving $2,000 (Dh7,300) from the woman and that but he kept threatening her to send more him more money. He was waiting for woman to send him more money when we arrested him,” Brigadier Al Rumaithi added.
The suspect met the woman on Facebook and then started using Skype to chat with her.
The suspect told investigators that he needed money as he was jobless.
