Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid visited the under-construction Museum of the Future in Dubai on Saturday.
The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai was briefed on developments and updated on other Dubai Future Foundation projects.
Sheikh Mohammed toured Area 2071 – a space to develop futuristic technology companies and start-ups. It is part of the UAE Centennial Plan that aims to make the Emirates the world’s leading nation by 2071, reported state news agency Wam.
Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai; Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; and Mohammed Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, among others.
In November, Dubai Media Office announced that the museum’s opening would be postponed to 2020. The Dh500 million museum’s opening was originally planned for 2017, but was later postponed to 2019.
The museum will be a research centre with labs and classrooms, as well as a space for visitors to experience coming technology.
Visitors will use wearable devices for “dynamic interactive experiences”.
