In anticipation of thousands of Chinese tourists visiting the UAE this month to celebrate the Chinese New Year – Year of the Dog – a huge cultural parade featuring over 1,500 Chinese representing 20 Chinese provinces performing their traditional music and dance will flock TO Dubai’s City Walk on Friday at 4pm to usher in the year.
The inaugural spectacle is organised in partnership with the Consulate General of China and Dubai Police.
In a press conference held at the City Walk’s La Vella Hotel on Feb.14, the Chinese Consul-General in Dubai, Li Lingbing, said, “The New Year celebrations will be held across various destinations run by the local firm, Meraas.
“They include City Walk, The Beach, Boxpark, The Outlet Village, Al Seef, and La Mer with an exciting schedule of entertainment and events from Feb.15 to 28,” she said.
On the reason for the arrangement, she attributed the move to the fact that Dubai is “home to over 270,000 Chinese residents. The city is also fast emerging as the preferred tourist destination for China.”
In attendance were the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Meraas, Osama Al Ayuub, and the Head of Security Awareness Department at Dubai Police, Brig. Dr Jasim Khalil Mirza.
Dr Mirza said the UAE has been a forerunner in keeping a “cosy, friendly and sincere relationship with other countries including China.
“The fact that we host over 200 nationalities attests to this,” he said, further attributing this factor to “our tolerance and love.”
Earlier, the Consul-General had said the bilateral trade between Dubai and China recorded $35 billion in non-oil sectors.
Lingbing said the festive vibe is a “packed schedule of family-friendly entertainment, that includes scintillating dances, enthralling face changing shows and high-octane drama as well as spontaneous surprises.
“The eye-catching Qipao dance, and the Han & Tang show which presents traditional theatre and dance performances are a definite must-see for children; Kung Fu Tea Master, Lion Dance and Drum Dance will be a visual treat. Catch the live shows every weekend from 4pm.”
