Sleeping Beauty, a lovable fairytale told time and time again. Now a world-renowned ballet group is giving patrons of Dubai a whole new reason to watch it one more time.
Set to perform four shows on Friday April 26 and Saturday April 27 next year, Dubai Opera will host The National Ballet of Ukraine’s enchanting version of Sleeping Beauty, and tickets are now on sale.
Tickets for the performance start from Dhs250, with special early bird prices offering a 20 percent discount on the top three seating categories until Tuesday October 30.
Better yet, kids below 12 will get a 50 percent discount, with tickets starting at Dhs125.
There are only four shows spaced out over two days, so you better nab your tickets soon if you want to secure a seat.
The grand ballet premiered in St. Petersburg in 1890, and has stunned audiences worldwide since.
The National Ballet of Ukraine is currently celebrating its 150th anniversary with a major international world tour, bringing along with it a symphony orchestra and an array of 18th century-style stunning costumes, gowns and wigs for the 42 performing dancers.
The traditional Russian ballet tells the tale through its unique choreography, combining classical techniques with original dancing methods. One signature movement involves ‘en pointe’, creating the impression of the dancers “floating over the stage”.
“Sleeping Beauty is a classic ballet, perfect for the entire family and anyone longing to be mesmerised by a fantastic and beautiful production of this ever-popular fairy tale,” said Dubai Opera’s chief executive Jasper Hope.
We’re sure you know the story, a wicked fairy curses Princess Aurora with the touch of a spindle, she falls into a never-ending slumber, and it can only be broken by true love.
And this is a version of the fairytale you won’t want to miss.
There are plenty of upcoming shows in the meantime to quench you appetite for opera, including the Taj Express until October 20, along with other epic shows throughout winter.
