The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) welcomed the Arab Republic of Egypt as its latest partner country on Thursday.
“We are very pleased to welcome the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Global Partnership for Education. By joining GPE, Egypt is taking an ambitious step towards providing quality schooling to all children in the country,” said Laura Frigenti, GPE’s Chief Executive Officer.
“We look forward to supporting the Egyptian Government and local education partners in implementing the education sector reform plan to transform education systems in Egypt and ensure every child has access to quality education.” added Frigenti.
Egypt has the largest pre-university education system in the Middle East and North Africa region, with over 25 million students. As part of Egypt’s overarching Strategic Vision 2030, the government has developed a five-year education sector plan focused on access to equitable, inclusive education, digital transformation, and early childhood education.
The sector plan aims to develop a new generation of highly qualified, competent individuals on the global stage. The education sector plan is expected to increase economic productivity and competitiveness in global markets, supporting sustained economic growth and social development in Egypt.
“We are delighted that Egypt has officially joined the Global Partnership for Education. This membership comes as a culmination of the efforts of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MoETE) in conducting a comprehensive education sector analysis and developing an evidence-based education sector plan with international standards, in cooperation with UNICEF as the coordinating agency and in enduring coordination with all Members of the Local Education Group from various development partners.
All previous efforts came with the full support and continuous coordination of the Global Partnership for Education,” said H.E. Reda Hegazy, Minister of Education and Technical Education of Egypt.
Egypt is eligible for a $50 million GPE Multiplier grant and up to $4.4 million for a system capacity grant.
