Protest against duty-free import of agricultural products from Ukraine announced in Bulgaria

Bulgarian farmers on March 13 announced a protest action demanding the termination of duty-free importation of agricultural products from Ukraine into the country, Radio Bulgaria reports.

As indicated in the message, more than 50 grain producers from the regions of Ruse, Pleven and Veliko Tarnovo blocked the Ruse-Pleven highway near the village. Gorna Studen in northern Bulgaria.

According to the protesters, duty-free importation of wheat and sunflower seeds from Ukraine will lead to the bankruptcy of many Bulgarian agricultural producers, since low prices for Ukrainian products make domestic products uncompetitive.

“The protesters have drawn up a note of protest addressed to the Minister of Agriculture of Bulgaria, in which they say that their warehouses are filled with unsold grain and they cannot pay off counterparties,” the report says.It is also emphasized that the protest action is termless.
